Get to Know
Dr. Melissa Bailey
Dr. Bailey says that the most rewarding part of being an orthodontist is witnessing the positive changes in her patients’ confidence and appearance as their smiles transform. She also enjoys getting to know everyone who visits us and sharing laughs. You can learn more about her background and what brought her to our practice below!
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Bailey didn’t decide she wanted to be an orthodontist until she had already started dental school, and this was because she began her own orthodontic treatment! Straightening her teeth piqued her curiosity about orthodontics, and the more she learned about the field, the more she loved it.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Bailey completed her undergraduate studies at UCLA where she earned degrees in both piano performance and business administration. She chose to stay there for dental school and was recognized for her academic achievements by being invited to join the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. As a student, she also demonstrated leadership and community service by organizing grants and helping operate a clinic that catered to the needs of underprivileged children. In recognition of her efforts, she was presented with the Outstanding Senior Award by the California Dental Association.
After finishing dental school, Dr. Bailey went on to receive advanced training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at Loma Linda University in Southern California. Today, she is a member of the American Dental Association and makes a conscious effort to stay up to date with the latest orthodontic techniques and innovations, and she frequently participates in continuing education courses. She is particularly interested in clear aligner therapy and even developed an app called TrayMinder® to help her patients stay on track with their aligner treatment.
As a testament to her expertise in the field of orthodontics, she is proud to be board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). The certification process involves a comprehensive evaluation of both written and clinical expertise by industry experts, and it is recognized worldwide as a symbol of excellence in patient care. Her written work has been featured in prominent publications such as ABC News and Dentistry IQ. Furthermore, her passion for creative problem-solving led to her selection as one of Forbes' Next 1,000 Aspiring Entrepreneurs in 2021.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Bailey is married with two young sons, and together, they like to visit the beach, travel, and build with Legos. During her leisure time, she enjoys listening to audiobooks, practicing yoga/meditation, running, playing the piano, painting, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
